According to a leading insurance company, the most common tool used to break through expandable doors, is a bolt-cutter applied to the bracing-connectors. Second most common tool used is a spade, which is used to attack the bracing-connectors. Ask your Maxidor consultant to do the bolt-cutter test with you. You will be amazed at the results!

In 2005 an independent body linked to SAIA (South African Insurance Association), namely ‘SAIA- approved’ conducted product testing on fixed and expandable security barriers across our industry. Each door was rated according to the results of a series of ‘attack’ tests. The highest rating was termed A-grade. Maxidor achieved an A-grade on both D12 and MXM products. In 2007 the SAIA grading system was discontinued, and is not applicable any more. Since then we have not made any changes that would diminish the strength of the graded products. Since the grading body of SAIA does not exist anymore, some companies have decreased the quality of their products, and still lay claim to their A-grade status.

We would like to state that although we have maintained the SAIA standard, it does not exist anymore and any company claiming to have an A-Grade product is using an outdated standard that has not been officially verified by an independent body since 2007.

Use the following checklist:

1. Is the company a reputable company. What is their reputation?
2. Have they been around for longer than their guarantee period?
3. Have they been around for as long as Maxidor (More than 2 decades)?
4. Will they be able to give me after sales service in a few years time?
5. Do they have a list of past happy clients (with actual letters or photo’s)?
6. Do they charge an honest price?
7. Were they referred to you by your friends?
8. Do they have a strong brand? Do they have a proven success record?

There are many smaller “fly by night” companies in this industry. Even though you might be tempted by a lower price, be careful! There are too many reported cases where smaller companies receive your deposit and no service is provided. Unfortunately some companies don’t stand the test of time, and therefore can’t be relied on for future promises and commitments.

That depends. No service provider in the industry can categorically guarantee that their product will not rust. Unfortunately at the coast, most components manufactured from steel will eventually rust. You can do much to prevent this by following a few precautionary steps.

1. Have the product installed inside your home as opposed to an exterior application.
2. Follow the prescribed maintenance disciplines.
3. Make use of the free annual service call (5 years)

Please note that product installed very close to the sea (less than 1 km) will show a higher propensity to rust. You can confidently make the decision to install Maxidor’s wherever you are because Maxidor has extensively invested in corrosion resistant processes, as well as to minimise the potential for scratches and damage to the protective layer, by the way it is constructed. As far as our corrosion protection and painting goes, Maxidor uses the same technology as the motor vehicle industry. Our treatment processes have proved to be astonishingly successful.
